10best.com Best Bet Award

Best Bet Award logo If you've ever dreamt about Treasure Island or longed for a peg leg and a shoulder-perching parrot, rush to this incredibly fun festival. Cathedral Park is recreated as a pirate village, peopled by costumed attendees and featuring a 19th-century privateer, cannon fights, and all sorts of talented buskers. Music, entertainment, food and drink (a pint of ale, anyone?), and a market featuring all things nautical, historical, and pirate-related (down to buccaneer hats, swords, and garb for endangered damsels) can be found. Kids' activities add a family-friendly quality, and good-natured revelry is widespread.
