Baby Gramps & the Denizens of the Deep
Hailed as one of the 50 most influential musicians of the last 100 years, Baby Gramps is an amazing amalgamation of everything that anybody’s ever heard including Mississippi John Hurt, Uncle Dave Macon, Charlie Patton, Blind Blake, Captain Beefheart, the Tuvan Throat Singers and Popeye. He plays beautifully “betwixt the cracks in the piano” a la Ornette Coleman, can scat the blues three notes at once, and has invented his own guitar technique he calls “scribbling”.
Captain Bogg & Salty
In the 12 years since Portland’s Captain Bogg & Salty released their first CD of tunes for young buccaneers, the band has grown from grassroots "kindie rock" sensation to a musical force and a NW favorite. With a new album on the way, Captain Bogg & Salty is preparing to expand their domain with regional summer performances, and spring 2009 tours to Boston, New York City, Chicago, and LA. The band's rock musical "Ghosts of Treasure Island" drew critical and audience acclaim last April during its 15-show run at Portland’s 3,000 seat Keller Auditorium. Sam Bam Boo Caribbean Island Band
Sam Bam Boo is one of the Northwest's most eclectic, exotic, funky, and just plain fun ensembles performing a variety of traditional Caribbean Music–including Calypso, Soca, Reggae as well as some Blues, Jazz and Surf Music–all with an Island Twist! Featuring the bright and engaging sounds of the Steel Pan, relentless rhythms of Percussion, Funky Bass lines and Soulful Guitar, the group has been well received at numerous festivals including Bumbershoot, Da Vinci Days, World Beat Festival, and the Rose Festival.
